Dates are high in natural fruit sugars, so like all treats, should be consumed in moderation. However, they also provide a wide range of nutrients including fibre, iron and potassium, so are a far cry from nutrient-deficient processed sweet treats.

Ingredients
Step by Step Instructions
- 100g pitted Medjool dates
- 100g pecan nuts
- 50g pumpkin seeds
- 50g rolled oats
- 4 tbsp cacao powder or unsweetened cocoa
- 2 heaped tsp almond butter
- Zest of an orange
- 3 tbsp orange juice
Step 1
Place all ingredients in a food processor and blitz until starting to clump together. If it is too dry, add a little more orange juice.
Step 2
Roll into walnut-sized balls. Keep refrigerated for up to two weeks.
Nutrition
The zest of citrus fruit contains the compound limonene, which supports liver detoxification.
